I just received an email from a good friend and great leader. He talks about how he spends roughly 6-10 hours a week working his network marketing business (AdvoCare). Hence the title of this post. Six in six.
So what does that really mean. All you need is 6-10 hours a week to legitimately work your business and you can be on your way to six figures or above. A matter a fact my buddy I received the email from makes almost six figures a month.
So here is the email I got. Let me know your thoughts. Please feel free to share.
"6- 10 Hours per Week"
During a recent 1-on-1 appointment, I was upfront with a gentleman about the realistic time investment required to build a business of substance here...
When I told him "6-10 hours per week", I noticed a sigh of relief, a sense of "I can do this"...
And he especially lit up when grasping the concept of building a team of people also committed to the "6-10 hours per week" steady approach - that was something he could authentically present to his friends and family...
This is a man who owns a business, wife is a chiropractor, 2 kids involved in sports... a full plate already...
If I blast him with a rant about how on fire we are as a company, team, etc, and about all the upcoming events he needs to attend, I'd lose him...
I've always fed one bite at a time... especially when recruiting men...
Don't get me wrong, I was direct and on purpose about the power of our company and my desire to lock arms with him. But to attract the high upside, high quality people we want - they've most always already got a full plate of life, so we must be passionate, but not overwhelm.
This also is a matter of style... some leaders have a motor that just doesn't stop, which works for them! Our approach is a bit more relaxed and methodical, thus it's typically what we attract... probably a good thing when thinking about building a stable, long-term business...
IF YOU MUST HYPE OR MANIPULATE SOMETHING TO GET IT,
YOU'LL HAVE TO HYPE AND MANIPULATE IT TO KEEP IT.
Indeed, there will be seasons of pressing, riding momentum, rockin' to the next level... all good things. But if our business success and fundamentals depend upon a raging fire and constant 60 hour weeks, one would have to question how sustainable and, just as important, how attractive that is to the high upside parent watching you.
Your new person typically won't/can't grasp the scale of what it is that we do, the bigger concepts of serving the many, pressing to Diamond, etc. Those are things we can let them experience and decide for themselves over time. If they fall in love with the bigger possibilities of Advocare, then yes they can decide to put in the 40 hour weeks for periods of time as they stretch for the full
Advocare experience that's possible.
What attracted us was the steady commitment of our sponsor Patrick, and the relaxed intensity of the Mark Leitgeb on a 3-way call - Mark had been doing the business for 10 years (back in 2004) when we first met he and Jaci, and they were still chuggin' along at a pace that seemed doable to us... even though they weren't "on fire", they were putting' in their 6-10 hours per week.
Are you?
And are you attracting that to your team?
From the beginning, we've had a vision of building a team of solid people who'd be here for the long term - all putting in their 6-10 hours per week, attending major local events, and Success School 2 times per year, mixed with some seasons of pressing.
We've attracted that fruit because we've done those things and planted those seeds. So can you.
